Honcho Zine - Camp'24
Honcho Zine - Camp'24
The Honcho Campout Zine is a curated collection of art, poetry, essays, photos, and stories from Campout attendees, artists, and staff. Born from a perceived need to document our experiences beyond social media, it serves as a lasting archive celebrating the multiplicity of perspectives that shape Campout and channeling the creative energy that lingers afterward. The Zine's contributions are featured across several categories:
Photography
Standalone images: Djassi Julien, Emilio Buitrago, Javier Aguilar, Jay Orellana/Jezebel, Sloan Leo, @tender_vision, Bryan Raposa
Narrative-driven photo stories: Fernando Gregório, Yucky, Clem McNabb, Malcolm Moran, Joshua Rolón, Cameron Allen aka NSA Worldwide.
A standout feature of the Zine is the analog photo experiment in which 30 disposable cameras were given to campers, capturing a stunning range of perspectives. If you were one of our anonymous photographers or ended up in front of the lens, now’s your chance to see the results.
Essays
These range from stage reviews and analyses by Eric Shethar, Samy Nevir Olivares, and Joe Delon, to philosophical reflections by Tyler Pratt, Sonali Fernando, and Ari M.
Personal narratives by Wyn, Rhodes Murphy, Pup Voltzy, Jeff Mojzer, Pup Chord, Chris Lepre, and Anya Voltz offer honest insights, alongside first-time campers adrián and Opulence Abundance sharing their experiences.
Art
Featuring collages, drawings, digital art and paintings by Nathan Godding, Phallographer, Charlie Porter, everforever, Ben Lapid, Ben Lewellyn, Q, and Vi Sterling & Smoko
Poetry
An impressive selection that spans experimental, eco-sensual, funny, and explosive works by kuya calamansi, Adam Scher, chris, Darryl Deangelo Terrell, Joss Barton, GRIDS, MJ Barnett, Nate Cabral, Starwin, Win Mixter, and st mozelle.
The Zine’s layout, lovingly designed by Juan Pablo Rahal, acts like a map, guiding you through its layers. Each category is visually distinct, forming a dynamic tapestry that’s both fun to explore and easy to navigate. You can see the design in the included sample spread.
While the Honcho Campout Zine has grown to resemble a book due to its length and presentation, its ethos remains true to a zine. Embracing the spirit of Campout, it prioritizes experimental expression - tied together by communal experience - over polished perfection.
We’re incredibly grateful for the many submissions we received and have done our best to include as many as possible, given the material and financial constraints of publishing independently.
By pre-ordering, you're amplifying queer voices and contributing to a project that reflects the creativity that flourishes at Campout. Thank you for your support!
